LOS ANGELES -- Hugh Pegan broke 11 seconds in the 100 meter in his first meet of the year, Melissa Braun cleared 10-feet, 11-inches in the pole vault for the fourth best mark in Oxy history and the Occidental men's and women's track and field teams combined to beat Pomona-Pitzer in the schools annual dual meet, 141-133 at Jack Kemp Stadium and Bill Henry Track on Saturday night.

Pegan, a sophomore from Ukiah who won the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year Award and was a member of the men's 4x100m All-American relay last season, crossed the finish line in 10.96 seconds for a win in the event.
Braun, a first year from Santa Cruz, put together the standout performance in her first official college meet.
Kera Bartlett holds the Oxy women's pole vault record after clearing 12-8 in 2008.
Sabrina Degnan, another first year, picked up a trio of wins in women's throws. Degnan won the shot with a 33-8.5, the discus with a 109-5, and the hammer with a 105-3.
Senior men's thrower Andrew Clarey opened the season with a bang in the shot put, throwing 43-4.25 for a career best.
The most exciting race of the evening was the men's 300m hurdles which had three runners break the old meet record. Pomona-Pitzer's Marcus Polk took first with the new record of 39.16 seconds, his teammate Cal Neikir was second at 39.41 and Oxy's Jesse Wong was third at 39.71.
