CLAREMONT — Oxy star thrower Sabrina Degnan won the hammer and the javelin on Day 1 of the SCIAC Track and Field Championships at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday.
The senior from Atascadero threw 169 in the hammer for a dominating win and 129-05 in the javelin for 10 points in each event. She is expected to be one of the top SCIAC women's scorers at the competition.
The hammer and javelin were two of a handful of events that were finals on Saturday, along with the 10,000m, 3,000m steeplechase, long jump and women's pole vault.
All running events are final on Sunday.
For the Oxy men, Tyler Webb was the No. 2 qualifier in the 100m at 10.74 and the No. 6 qualifier in the 200m at 22.06. He came into the competition as the fastest 100m sprinter in the SCIAC this year with a time of 10.70 at the Rossi Relays.
