CLAREMONT — The Occidental men's water polo team played well at the Gary Troyer Tournament in Claremont this weekend, beating NCAA Division II McKendree 14-11, and losing to NCAA Division I Santa Clara and Forham, and NCAA Divison II Concordia.
The Tigers came out and dominated McKendree from the opening sprint, leading 6-0 in the second quarter, 8-2 at halftime and 12-3 late in the third quarter. McKendree put in a few late goals to make the score look more competitive.
Oxy had 10 different goal scorers, led by Elijah Havens, Cian Concannon, Hayden Comerford and Tanner Jones, who all had two goals each. Nicolas Lipari, Wilson Noll, Christian Guillame, Daniel Cruz and Nate Fisher each scored one goal.
Lipari led the Tigers in points with one goal and three assists.
Oxy goalkeeper Cole Ivie had a standout game, locking down McKendree with 10 saves.
The Tigers last three contests of the tournament came against scholarship schools. Oxy lost to Santa Clara 18-10, Concordia 19-8 and Forham 13-3.
Season Impact: Oxy's record goes to 5-8 overall.
