ORANGE — The Occidental softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader at Chapman on Saturday.
The Tigers scored 12 runs in 12 innings, but didn't match it with good enough pitching to win.
Bailey Stevens, Oxy's career home run leader, went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, a double and three walks on the day.
Game 1: Chapman 13, Occidental 3 - 5 innings
The Tigers ran into trouble in the first inning, giving up nine runs.
Oxy had eight hits in the game, led by Stevens, who went 2 for 2 with an RBI, and Alexandra Olkein, who went 2 for 2. Nyla Gatison and Drew Samson each went 1 for 2 with a run scored, Delaney Russell was 1 for 1 with an RBI-single, and Cora Roberts went 1 for 3 with a run scored.
Oxy scored one run in the third and two in the fourth.
Madison Romero was charged with the loss.
Ayanna Sanchez pitched all five innings with six strikeouts for the win for the Panthers.
Game 2: Chapman 12, Occidental 9
Romero went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, Glover was 3 for 4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, Samson was 2 for 5 with a run scored and Roberts went 2 for 5. Bailey Stevens was 1 for 2 with an RBI-double and three walks, and Alexis Funaki hit a two-run homer.
Oxy fell behind 7-0, but rallied to take an 8-7 lead before giving up five runs in the sixth.
Russell was charged with the loss. Kelly McCarty pitched two scoreless innings for Chapman in a winning effort.
Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 1-10 overall and 1-5 in SCIAC play.
Chapman improves to 4-6 and 4-4.
