Tigers Give Athenas Scare Late

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's basketball team rallied back from a 16-point first half deficit to come within three points off a Grace Baranowski layup with 2:06 left in the game.

But the Athenas closed out the period on a 7-2 run to give the Tigers a 56-48 loss at Rush Gymnaisum Saturday night.

Season Impact: Oxy falls to 8-13 overall and 4-8 in SCIAC play.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps improves to 17-4 and and remains a perfect 12-0 in the SCIAC.

Erin Matsumoto was solid for the for the Tigers finishing with 12 points including a 3-pointer to put the Tigers within five with 2:41 left to play.

Baranowksi was dominant in the paint grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with her eight points. 

Ciara Byrne nearly had a double-double for the Tigers with 12 points and eight rebounds. Midori McElwee also finished in double digits with 10 points. 

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was led by Kailee Severt who finished with 17 points with 5-9 shooting from beyond the arc.

Next Game: The Tigers host Redlands next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
