Tigers Comeback Comes Up Short

LOS ANGELESErin Matsumoto made the Occidental women's basketball team's comeback bid against Rochester Institute of Technology a little more interesting with a three-pointer at the buzzer.

But the game was already all but over as the Tigers fell 60-58 at Rush Gym on Saturday.

Matsumoto led both teams in scoring with 15 points, going 3 for 5 from the 3-point line.

The Tigers outscored RIT by 15 points in the second half, nearly overcoming a 17-point halftime deficit. Oxy fell behind 22-4 at the end of the first quarter before slowly starting to chip away.

Shariah Green provided a strong defensive presence for Oxy, finishing with 12 rebounds and nine points. Tala Ismail also made her presence known with three steals and two blocks.

Jessica Giaz and Aslynn Palmitesso led RIT with 14 points each.

Next Game: The Tigers play Linfield College at Rush Gym 5:00 PM Sunday.
