Oxy Women's Hoops Plays Hawaii Tournament

HONOLULUTala Ismail led the Occidental women's basketball team with 12.5 ppg and 9 rpg in the team's two-game road trip in Hawaii this week. The Tigers fell to Whitman, 67-49 on Monday, and were edged by North Central (Ill.), 82-78 on Tuesday.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 4-5 overall.

Ismail, a 5-foot-11 first year forward from Pasadena, scored 18 points against North Central (Ill.) and seven against Whitman. She grabbed nine rebounds in each game.

Triana Anderson, the SCIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, did not shoot well, but chipped in 23 points in the two games. Erin Matsumoto added 8.5 ppg for the Tigers.

Game 1: Whitman 67, Occidental 49

The Tigers couldn't keep up with the undefeated and No. 22-ranked team in the country. Oxy's biggest contribution came from Anderson, who had 14, and Matsumoto, who had 11.

Game 2: North Central (Ill.) 82, Occidental 78

Ismail led the Tigers with 18 points, Emily Leonard added 12 and Shariah Green scored 10. Oxy went up by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter, but North Central (Ill.) hit six three-pointers to beat the Tigers.  

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action against Cal Lutheran in a SCIAC game on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. at Rush Gym.
