LOS ANGELES – The Occidental College women's basketball team started off 2017 with a 69-53 non-conference win over La Sierra at Rush Gym on Tuesday.
Oxy's defense was stout throughout the game, forcing 18 steals that led to 27 points. Emily Leonard came off the bench to provide a defensive plug, leading the team with nine rebounds.
"We really pushed the tempo and did a good job producing points off turnovers," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan.
The Tigers got off to a fast start with a 10-2 run to begin the game. The Golden Eagles managed to cut into the Tigers league in the second quarter, bringing the score to 22-19 with 5:22 left in the quarter, but the Tigers pulled away to end the quarter 35-23.
Rachel Hahn led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 17 points.
Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 5-6. The Golden Eagles fall to 4-10.
