LOS ANGELES — Triana Anderson scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Shariah Green added 20 points and the Occidental women's basketball team moved into first place with a 74-66 win over Chapman at Rush Gym on Saturday.
Season Impact: Oxy wins its fifth game in a row, improving to 9-6 overall and and 5-1 in SCIAC play.
Chapman suffers its first SCIAC loss of the season, falling to 7-7 overall and 4-1 in SCIAC. The Panthers were picked to finish second in the SCIAC preseason coaches poll.
"I'm proud of our fight and resilience," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. "We bounced back from a poor first half and finished plays on both ends of the floor. Triana had a monstrous game for us. Not only did she attack the basket and finish, her determination to get after boards payed off big time."
Jaryn Fajardo led Chapman with 21 points, Megan Charles and 18 and Lauren Sato scored 11.
Oxy is off to its best start in SCIAC play since the 2012-13 season.
The Tigers put together a big second half, outscoring the Panthers 24-14 in the third quarter and 22-16 in the fourth.
Chapman led 36-28 at halftime. After a slow start to the game, Oxy handled Chapman's tough pressure defense, only turning the ball over 15 times on the game.
Oxy outrebounded Chapman 53-44, including 18 on the offensive end.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Monday at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 7 p.m. Oxy beat CMS 52-51 in the team's SCIAC opener earlier this year.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
