CLAREMONT – The Occidental women's basketball team's five-game win streak was snapped with a 53-43 loss at defending SCIAC Champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

After beating CMS last month in the first round of SCIAC play, the Tigers faced an aggressive CMS team that forced 14 steals and had 14 offensive rebounds.

CMS held a lead throughout the first quarter until Dru Ishibashi made a 3-point jump shot to give the Tigers a 13-12 at the end of the quarter. CMS outscored the Tigers in the second quarter to take a 28-22 lead going into halftime.

The Tigers were able to cut into CMS's lead in the third quarter with a jump shot by Tala Ismail, making the score 32-31 with 4:06 left in the quarter, but CMS responded with a 6-0 run, giving them a cushion they would sustain throughout the game.

Shariah Green led the Tigers with 12 points and nine rebounds. Tala Ismail scored nine points, and Triana Anderson and Emily Leonard each chipped in eight.

CMS's Kailee Severt led both teams in points with 13.

Season Impact: Oxy falls to 9-7 and 5-2 in SCIAC play. CMS improves to 9-6 and 5-1 in SCIAC.

Next Game: The Tigers return to action at Pomona-Pitzer at 5 p.m. this Saturday.
