LOS ANGELES — After a slow start, the Occidental women's basketball team cruised past the St. Katherine Firebirds 84-63 in a Wednesday night non-conference match up at Rush Gymnasium.
Despite trailing 18-12 after the first, the Tigers rallied back with a 21-point second quarter - at one point tallying 12 straight - to finish the half up 39-27. The Tigers ran into little trouble in the second half - controlling both the pace and style of the game.
Down key contributors, Tala Ismail and Emily Leonard, the Tigers received solid nights from Kendahl Wallis-Lang (11 pts and 7 reb) and Michaela Smith-Simmons (10 pts and 3 reb), who both logged big minutes for the Tigers.
Triana Anderson led Oxy in scoring with 14 points and Alyssa Ramlochan put in a solid all-around game, totaling 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. Shariah Green and Chelsea Brooks both contributed 10 points.
Briana Lampkin turned in a monster game for the Firebirds putting up 24 points on 50 percent shooting from the field.
Season Impact: The Wednesday night victory pushes Oxy even on the season at 10-10.
