Oxy Runs Away From St. Katherine

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's basketball team blew out St. Katherine 93-44 in a non-conference game at Rush Gym on Saturday.

Oxy slashing guards Taylor Yoshida and Maylene U. Hughes were efficient and effective, combining for 55 of the Tigers' points. Yoshida was 9 for 15 for 23 points, to go along with seven assists, and Hughes was 8 for 11 with 22 points and also had four assists and four rebounds.

Raveena Dhiman hit four threes and added 15 points, Kulaea Tulua had six points and nine rebounds, with six of them coming at the offensive end of the court, and the Tigers got a big boost with 24 bench points.

Kiarra Young led the bench effort with eight points, five rebounds and three assists, and Michaela Smith and Madison Toy each scored six points.

Oxy put the game away early with a 34-9 first quarter advantage and led 54 to 29 at halftime.

The Tigers played even better defensively in the second half, holding St. Katherine to just 15 points in 20 minutes.

Oxy rebounded well as a team, winning the battle on the boards 60-36.

The Tigers shot well at 48.7 percent from the field, while holding St. Katherine to just 22.7 percent shooting.

Olivia Riojas led St. Katherine with 16 points.

Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 6-6 on the season.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action on against Chapman in SCIAC play on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
