LOS ANGELES — Katy Uchiyama earned the SCIAC Women's Golf Sportsmanship Award after competing with the utmost integrity during the 2017-18 season.
The award, which is given annually at the conference tournament, is voted on by the conference's players and is thought of as a terrific honor.
"We are so proud of Katy and how she represents Oxy as a student-athlete," Oxy head coach Will Morris said. "We view this award as the highest honor a golfer in our conference can receive."
Uchiyama competes with a quiet class and determination. She is a co-captain of the team and is the women's golf representative on Oxy's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
The Tigers finished the three-day, three-round SCIAC Golf Championships at Los Serranos Golf Club on Tuesday. Oxy struggled during Round 1, but bounced back to finish the tournament strong.
Samantha Rocha was Oxy's No. 1 as she's been for the past three seasons, shooting her best round at 8-over 80 on Sunday.
Oxy, which is becoming known for its players athleticism and background in various other sports, will return all seven players next season, including Rocha, Uchiyama, Anna Lundquist, Isabel Ruiz, Stephnie Lin, Nicole Henderson and Vivian Sun.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
