LOS ANGELES — Sierra Slack, Ciara Byrne and Alessandra Pelliccia each scored five goals as the Occidental women's lacrosse team opened the season with a huge victory, routing Redlands 19-12 on Wednesday.
It's Oxy's largest victory over the Bulldogs in program history.
Pelliccia, the 2017 SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year, put the icing on the cake with one final goal as time expired in the second half.
Emma Barrow played outstanding defense for Oxy and was huge on the draw, snatching up a game-high six. Peliccia had five and Slack had three.
Pelliccia also had a game-high six ground balls, Goodman had five and Byrne had four.
Oxy went on a 5-0 run in the middle of the second half that put the game out of reach. At one point the Tigers extended a 16-7 lead.
1st Half: Oxy came out strong with three consecutive goals, out-drawing the Bulldogs 9-4 in the first 30 minutes and riding hard in the midfield to turn Redlands over.
Byrne, Pelliccia and Slack each score a pair of goals in the first half. Hallare scored a goal and DiLella had the first goal of the game and her first career goal.
Season Impact: Oxy improves to 1-0 on the season.
Redlands falls to 0-1.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action at Southwestern (Texas) at 2 pm central time.
