LOS ANGELES — The Occidental Women's Lacrosse team fell to the #25 St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks, 16-10 in Tuesday's non-conference match up at Jack Kemp Stadium.
Oxy found itself at an early deficit against the nationally-ranked Seahawks, who scored six consecutive goals in the first 10 minutes. Unfazed by the hot start, the Tigers managed to weather the offensive barrage with a tight defense finishing the half within reach at 10-4.
The Seahawks got off to a quick start - scoring 4 straight goals, extending their lead to in the second half. Again, the Tigers rallied back - netting three straight goals in under 4 minutes to bring the game back within striking distance. St. Mary's goalie, Emma Brown, was the difference in the game, saving an outstanding 15 of 22 shots and fighting off any hopes of a Tiger comeback. Despite the loss, the Tigers dominated the draw 17-10, out-shot the Seahawks by five, and looked strong on ground balls.
Madisyn Hallare and Alessandra Pelliccia both shined, tallying three goals each and leading the Tigers through a tough St. Mary's defense. Ciara Byrne had a strong all around game, notching two goals and causing four Seahawks turnovers. Sierra Slack and Shai Goodman both added a goal each.
The Tigers defense was led by Corrine Bates and Annie Stevens - who both had two ground balls and slowed the St. Mary's fast-paced offense. Junior goalie, Neah Bois played big in the cage for the Tigers, saving ten shots and picking up two ground balls.
