LOS ANGELES — Sierra Slack had five goals, four assists and five draw controls, and Ciara Byrne added six goals and a pair of caused turnovers as the Occidental women's lacrosse team beat Pomona-Pitzer 16-11 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.
Slack, a senior from Vorhees, N.J., and Byrne, a senior from Ojai, are playing as good of lacrosse as anyone in the conference. The duo is 1-2 in in the SCIAC in points and goals.
Alessandra Pelliccia scored two goals and grabbed four ground balls, Marie Whitmore had three assists, Lauren DiLella had an assist and five ground balls, Madysin Hallare added two goals and Elizabeth Andrews scored once. Emma Barrow chipped in four draw controls and a caused turnover, leading Oxy's defense.
Trailing 6-5 with 6 minutes to play in the first half, Oxy went on a 6-0 run to take control of the game. The Saghens were never closer than four goals from the Tigers from the point on.
Season Impact: The win puts Oxy's record at 10-5 overall and 6-2 in SCIAC play, meaning the Tigers can clinch the No. 2 seed and a home playoff game in the four-team SCIAC Tournament later this month with one more victory.
