Oxy Comes Up Short Against No. 22 CMS

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's lacrosse team played good defense for most of the game, but No. 22 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps pulled away late and the Tigers fell 12-6 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.

Led by goalkeeper Neah Bois, and defenders Emma Rogers and Zoe Edwards, the Tigers held CMS to its lowest scoring output of the season.

"I was happy with the way our defense battled to the end," Oxy head coach Hannah Khin said. "They really kept our team in the game going into the second half."

The CMS defense was good too. They pressured out high and hard, giving Oxy a tough time with ball movement.

Oxy opened the second half on a 3-0 run on goals from Lauren Di Lella, Madisyn Hallare and Shai Goodman tying the game at 5-5 less than 5 minutes into the half.

CMS quickly regrouped and countered with a 3-0 run of its own in the next 4 minutes to take back the momentum of the game, and finished the day on a 7-1 run.

Oxy dominated the draw 14-6, but left a lot of chances on free position opportunities, going just 3 for 10 from the 8-meter line.

Bois anchored Oxy's defense well with 11 saves, Lauren Di Lella led the Tigers with two goals, Alessandra Pelliccia had a goal and six draw controls, Shai Goodman had a goal, two assists and five draw controls, and Emma Rogers had six ground balls.

Corrie Hack led CMS with four goals, and Sally Abel and Alex Futterman each had two.

Season Impact: Oxy falls to 2-2 overall and 2-2 in SCIAC play.

CMS improves to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in SCIAC play.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action on Wednesday, playing at Whittier at 7 p.m.
