Oxy Beats Redlands, Tied For Second

REDLANDS — The Occidental women's lacrosse team won big at Redlands 18-10 on Saturday, maintaining its position in second place in the SCIAC with two games to play.

The Tigers scored three goals in the first 2 minutes, led 10-5 at halftime and never really were in jeopardy of losing.

Oxy came into the game riding the momentum of its two biggest victories of the season, including a 17-6 win over Chapman and a 13-12-comeback over Pomona-Pitzer.

"We were able to carry the same energy from our last two games into the start of this game," Oxy head coach Hannah Khin said. "Our team has been connecting all over the field and it was a team effort on both ends."

Corinne Bates and Emma Barrow led the Tigers on defense with all-around solid play. Bates had three caused turnovers and Barrow had three ground balls.

Madisyn Hallare had another incredible performance, dominating the draw with 11, along with a pair of goals and five ground balls.

Alessandra Pelliccia had three goals and one assist, Shai Goodman had two goals and an assist, and Lauren Di Lella had one goal and two assists for the Tigers.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 8-4 overall and 6-2 in SCIAC. The Tigers have secured a spot in the four-team SCIAC tournament, but lose out to Pomona-Pitzer on the tiebreaker so they need to finish ahead of the Sagehens in order to host a home playoff game in the first round.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday.
