LOS ANGELES — Rachel Kolpa had an outstanding college debut with a pair of goals and the Occidental women's soccer team knocked off a very good Knox team 2-1 in the Tigers' season opener at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.
Kolpa, a first year from Seattle, Wash., scored her first goal in the 6th minute when the Knox keeper came too far off her line. She won the ball, dribbled her way around the keeper and placed the ball into the back of the net.
Kolpa's second goal came in the 75th minute. Isabella Bonomi made a good run down the left line and received a great ball. She got the cross off and Kolpa came charging in, getting a sliding foot on it to put Oxy up 2-1.
Knox has already beaten SCIAC opponent Chapman 2-0 this year. They are undefeated in their conference play and have made the NCAA Division III playoffs in each of the last two seasons.
The Knox goal was a very impressive free kick by Courtney Dramm who hit a rocket shot that was perfectly placed into the top left corner of the goal with 1 minute left in the first half.
Knox had a chance to go up 2-1 early in the second half, but Alex Robertson's volley behind the Oxy defense sailed high.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday at Jack Kemp Stadium, hosting Cal Lutheran for its first SCIAC game of the season.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
