Oxy Beats Pomona-Pitzer in First-Place Showdown

LOS ANGELESKatherine Kim scored the game's only goal on a penalty kick in the 71st minute and the Occidental defense blanked another opponent in a 1-0 win at Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday.

Layla Devlin did good work in the box to earn the penalty before being fouled for Oxy. 

The Tigers continue their undefeated season and move into first place in the SCIAC with 18 points. Pomona-Pitzer was in first when the day started at 16 points.

"This team knows how to dig deep and find a way to get a result," Oxy head coach Colm McFeely said. "It was not always pretty today, but it is a handsome three points."

Sydney Tomlinson made 11 saves and the Tigers kept their outstanding defense rolling. Oxy shut out its impressive fifth opponent in a row. 

With one round of eight SCIAC games in the books, Oxy has only let in a one goal. The Tigers have given up two in nine total games this season.

The last team to score against Oxy was Redlands at Redlands on Sept. 12.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 6-0-3 overall and 5-0-3 in SCIAC.

Pomona-Pitzer falls to 8-2-1 and 5-2-1.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Saturday at Cal Lutheran on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Tigers tied Cal Lutheran 0-0 in 2 OTs in the first meeting between the schools on Sept. 5.

The Regals are near the top of the standings too. Cal Lutheran went into Wednesday's round of games in fourth place with 14 points.
