LOS ANGELESDevoney Amberg was named the SCIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

With Amberg in one of two center back positions, the Tigers posted two more shutouts on the week, including a 1-0 win at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps that clinched the No. 3 seed in the SCIAC Tournament. The Tigers, which tied for second place in the SCIAC regular season, play at No. 2 Cal Lutheran on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Oxy's defense had the best goals against record of any SCIAC school, surrendering just four goals in conference play, and has posted a total of 11 shutouts this year.

Amber, a junior from Redondo Beach, is the fifth Oxy player to win a SCIAC weekly award and the third to win on defense. Karla Alas-Lopez and Sydney Tomlinson were also named SCIAC Defensive Players of the Week, and Rachel Kolpa and Katherine Kim each won SCIAC Offensive Players of the Week.

Oxy's also gotten several key defensive contributions from fullbacks Caroline Kearney and Tracy Watanabe, along with Amberg, Alas-Lopez and Tomlinson.
