Oxy Playing at Pomona-Pitzer in SCIAC Final


CLAREMONT — The Occidental women's soccer team is playing at Pomona-Pitzer in the SCIAC Tournament Championship Game on Saturday at noon.

Admission: Tickets for students and employees with a current ID from any SCIAC school are free. General admission costs $10, while senior citizens 55 and over and military personnel with ID are $5. Children under 12 are free.

How They Got There: The No. 3 Tigers won at Cal Lutheran 2-1 to advance. Oxy tied for second place, but was the No. 3 seed due to tiebreakers.

Pomona-Pitzer won the regular season championship and the No. 1 seed. They beat No. 4 Redlands 4-0 in the SCIAC Semifinal.

Oxy Standouts: The Oxy women are led by senior captains Nicole Castro and Sydney Tomlinson, and have become known for their outstanding defense. Oxy has the best goals against record of any SCIAC school, surrendering just four goals all season.  Both Castro and Tomlinson were All-SCIAC selections, along with Karla Alas-Lopez and Elleni Bekele. Oxy also has the 2018 SCIAC Newcomer of the Year in Isabella Bonomi and the 2018 SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year led by head coach Colm McFeely.  

Pomona-Pitzer Standouts: The Sagehens are led by SCIAC Player of the Year Sarah Jones and All-SCIAC selections Bria VarnBuhler, Isa Berardo, Brianna Lau, Emily Tomz and Anna Ponzio.
