CAL LUTHERAN — The Occidental women's soccer team defeated Whitworth 1-0 in the second of two overtime periods in a neutral site match at Cal Lutheran on Saturday.
Junior Dylan Wensely hit a beautifully-weighted lob shot with her right foot, that sailed over the goalkeeper's head and into the net for the winner in the 102nd minute.
It was Wensley's fourth career goal and first this season.
Despite playing with a little fatigue from a victory less than 24 hours prior to the contest, Oxy played hard, starting with its forwards, who limited the Whitworth build up with good hustle.
Oxy's defense also played well again, recording its 15th shutout in its last 21 games dating back to the beginning of last season.
"Overall it was a hard-fought victory that should stimulate competition on the training field," Oxy head coach Colm McFeely said.
Season Impact: The Tigers move to 3-0 to start the season.
Next Game: Oxy plays its first home game of the season against Saint Katherine on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Jack Kemp Stadium.
