LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's soccer team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 4-0 win over St. Katherine in its home opener at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday night.
Dylan Wensley scored her second goal of the season and fifth of her career just 30 seconds into the match, putting Oxy in control from the start. Isabella Bonomi sent a ball into the box from 30 yards out, St. Katherine goalkeeper Victoria Cavaros knocked it down in front of the goal where Wensley was opportunistically waiting and volleyed it in from close range.
First year Kyra Bethune scored her second goal of the season on a beautiful right-footed shot that went into the upper left corner from 25 yards out in the 34th minute.
Jasmine Davis scored Oxy's third goal in the 55th minute, weaving her way through the box to slot one in the bottom right corner.
Oxy dominated possession and spent most of the game on the St. Katherine side of the field.
The Thunderbirds did not attempt a shot on goal and had just one shot all evening off a set piece.
The Tigers kept up their good defensive streak led by their back line of Devoney Amberg, Isabella Bonomi, Karla Alas-Lopez and Caroline Kearney. Oxy recorded its 16th shut out in its last 22 games dating back to the beginning of last season.
In its four games this season, Oxy has outscored its opponents 13-0.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, hosting Redlands in their first SCIAC game of the season at 5:30 p.m.
