LOS ANGELES — Steve Webb, Occidental's head men's and women's swimming and diving coach for the past three seasons, has accepted a position at another institution, effective July 31.
"We would like to thank Steve for all he has done for Occidental Athletics. His efforts have helped to create a very bright future for our swimming and diving programs," Oxy athletic director Shanda Ness said. "We will work diligently to name his successor."
In Webb's three seasons, the team posted seven NCAA consideration cut times, broke 28 school records, had two Academic All-Americans and two different swimmers earn All-American status. Both the men's and women's teams have achieved CSCAA Scholar All-America honors every semester Webb has been at the helm, with the men's team GPA being 12th highest in the country in 2017.
The Oxy women's team is coming off of a third-place finish in SCIAC and the Oxy men were fifth.
Webb, a former NCAA Division I swimmer at Florida State, previously spent three years as the head coach at Augsburg College in Minneapolis where he led the women's team to the school's three highest finishes in program history and 37 individual school records. The team also earned CSCAA Scholar All-American honors every semester.
Prior to his college coaching experience, Webb was a successful high school coach. He was the head boys coach at East Ridge HS for two seasons where he led them to a 17-1 dual-meet record and a Suburban East Conference Championship in 2012, and the head girls coach at Mounds View HS from 2010-13 where his program produced 11 NISCA All-Americans and four consecutive Top 6 finishes at the True Team State meet.
