Oxy Women's Tennis Concludes Strong Texas Trip

TEXAS — The Occidental women's tennis team went 1-2 during a three-match stretch in Texas during the first weekend of spring break.

The Tigers beat Schreiner and lost to Southwestern and East Texas Baptist.

Oxy's No. 1 doubles team has emerged as its clear strength with Jane Wright and Katie Wolber playing very well. The duo went 2-1 on the trip, beating a team from Schreiner 8-6, and a team from East Texas Baptist, 8-1.

In the Schreiner match, Wright clinched the victory with the fifth point at No. 2 singles, rallying from a set down with strong shots off both wings and good foot speed to eventually wear down her opponent Katie Smith, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Alana Adelman found her form at No. 6 singles in a win over Kate Woods. She was steady from the back of the court, but then also selectively attacked the net at opportune times. Adelman was also part of perhaps the match of the trip against East Texas Baptist, falling 10-8 in an epic match and third set.

Andrea Clawson was rock steady at No. 3 singles, winning 6-3, 6-2.

Katie Wolber also was in the winners column with a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-4.

Season Impact: The Tigers' record goes to 3-6 overall.

Next Match: Oxy is back in action on Thursday against Wheaton.
