CLAREMONT — The Occidental women's tennis team had a strong outing at the Fall ITA Tennis Tournament at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps over the weekend.
Oxy enjoyed wins by both newcomers and returners, totaling the most wins they've had in recent history.
Katie Wolber had a solid quarterfinal run with victoriess over Whittier and Cal Lutheran players before falling in a tight two-set match to No. 3 seed Georgia Tuckerman of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
First year player Sarah Flemming, who represented Occidental's only participant in the top flight, got a nice win over Pomona-Pitzer's Jacinta Chen before falling to No. 2 seed and eventual finalist Justine Leong of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the Round of 16.
Wolber and Flemming had a nice doubles run as well, picking up a victory over Cal Lutheran's top team before falling to the No.-4 seeded Pomona-Pitzer team.
The Tigers also had deep runs by first year Lilian Lin, and returners Jane Wright and Zoe Campbell.
After losing their first matches, Lin and Wright both advanced to the semifinals finals of Flight B. In perhaps the match of the tournament for the Tigers, Wright fell in an epic three-set thriller, 7-5, 6-7 (5), 10-8 to Cal Lutheran's Heidi Levanen.
Campbell and Lin teamed up in doubles to go on a nice run before losing in the consolation semifinals.
The Tigers also got wins over the weekend from Neah D'Souza who performed well in Flight C before losing in three sets to eventual winner, Rubina Copano of Cal Lutheran.
Oxy finishes its Fall season with a very positive outlook going into the winter break and the Spring season.
