LOS ANGELES – The Occidental College track and field teams competed in their third-and-final SCIAC Multi-Dual meet on Saturday at Jack Kemp Stadium. The women's team picked up a win against Chapman, while the men fell against Cal Lutheran, Redlands and La Verne.
Although the men's team wasn't able to record a team win, the Tigers notched several individual race victories.
NCAA Division III Indoor All-American Jonathan Padron (Kapolei, Hawaii) crossed the finish line first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.64 seconds. Padron also ran the anchor leg of Oxy's winning 4x100 relay team that featured Edmond O'Suji (Houston, Texas), Charles Chisom (Palo Alto) and Kevin Cox (Sedona, Ariz.) and posted a time of 41.77.
Jesse Wong (San Mateo) won the 400 hurdles, crossing the line at 54.90.
The men's event winners included Colin Smith (Las Vegas), who took the 1500 (4:00.66), and Cox, who managed a 21-9.0 in the long jump to earn the victory to go along with his relay win.
On the women's side, Brooke Staton (Clarksville, Md.) had a pair of third place finishes in the long jump (17-4.0) and the triple jump (35-11.25) and Ayana Malkia-Foster (Oakland) cracked the 1-minute mark in the 400, finishing at 59.11 for third place.
Tara Saxena (Palo Alto) and Danielle Lyons (Lake Forest Park, Wash.) went one-two in the 3000 steeplechase, finishing within 6 seconds of each other. Saxena finished the race in 11:57.64 and Lyons ran hers in 12:03.30.
"I'm proud of the entire team. We competed hard and ran for each other," Occidental College coach Rob Bartlett said. "The six event winners obviously did well and their victories should be great confidence boosters heading in to SCIAC Championships."
The Tigers will compete in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational next Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
