LOS ANGELES — Peter Quint 87' and Alex Ramon '08 were inducted into the Occidental Track and Field Hall of Fame on Saturday, highlighting an exciting Alumni Meet weekend as the 2015 Tigers competed for the first time this season against some of the greats that came before them.
Quint is a two-time NCAA DIII All-American in the 3000m steeplechase and currently still the USA Deaf 3000m steeplechase and 10,000m record holder.
Ramon is also an NCAA DIII All-American in the 3000m steeplechase and an NCAA DIII All-American in Cross Country. He is Oxy's school record holder in the 3000m steeplechase.
Both distance runners were inducted following the Alumni Meet with a dinner ceremony.
Few schools, at any level, in the United States can boast the traditions, both academically and athletically, that Occidental College enjoys. Long regarded as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the United States, Occidental has also amassed a string of conference championships and national championship performances in track and field and cross country that few schools can match.
Occidental Tigers have participated in intercollegiate track and field competition since 1893 and the College has produced conference champions too numerous to list, All-Americans numbering in the hundreds, several Olympians and even a handful of world record holders. Occidental's Track and Field Hall of Fame reads like a veritable "Who's Who" of American track and field.
"Our annual alumni meet gives us a great chance to show off the incredible tradition of Occidental track and field," Oxy head coach Rob Bartlett said. "It's also a great way for our current team to learn more about the program they are competing for from some of the people who helped build to its legacy."
The day's competition featured a talented crop of distance runners that competed in the men's 3,200, including Ramon, and on the field side, Oxy Track and Field Hall of Fame Coach Bill Harvey threw the shot put. Recent Oxy graduate Meghan Lang '13 won the women's 3,200.
Women's sprinter Onyekachi Nwabueze highlighted current Oxy student-athlete performances, missing her alumni meet record in the 150m by .04 seconds (20.17).Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Like us on Facebook Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
