Nwabueze, Wong Post Solid Times at Oxy Spring Classic

LOS ANGELES — Occidental women's sprinter Onyekachi Nwabueze finished third overall in the 100 meters and men's field athletes Andrew Clarey and Noah Winnick each won a throwing event, highlighting Occidental's top performances at the Oxy Sprints Festival and Distance Carnival on Friday.

Nwabueze, a sophomore who's Oxy's top female sprinter, ran 12.79, finishing behind just Pomona-Pitzer's Ailene Nguyen (12.39) in the fast section and also Taylor Matthews (12.65) of Pasadena, who ran in Section 2. 

Clarey won the shot put with a mark of 44-6 and Winnick won the hammer, throwing 130-10.

Kimberly Orpinela won the women's hammer with a toss of 139-0, giving Oxy a clean sweep in the event. 

The Tigers also had a handful of impressive efforts from men's sprinters. Jesse Wong ran 1:58.06, finishing second in the fifth section of the 800, and Gabriel Barrett-Jackson (49.25) and Hugh Pegan (49.80) went 1-2 in the 400.
