Braun, Dunne Lead Oxy at First SCIAC Dual Meet

LOS ANGELESIsabelle Dunne and Melissa Braun led the Occidental women's track and field team to a 1-2 start to the SCIAC Dual-Meet season on Saturday, winning an event each.

Dunne, a sophomore from Cohasset, Mass., took first in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 65.26 seconds.

Braun, a first year from Santa Cruz, won the pole vault competition, clearing 11-feet-05.75 inches.

Oxy first year Emma Yudelevitch had another impressive day in the sprints, placing third in the 100m behind the SCIAC's all-time 1-2 in the event. Yudelevitch ran 12.64 behind second-place Tiahna Gillon (12.45) of La Verne and first place Tyra Abraham (12.12) of CMS.

Abraham has the SCIAC record at 11.93 and Gillon's second-best mark is 12.02. Oxy's Kristen Stuart holds the third-best time at 12.06 set in 2002.

Yudelevitch also placed fourth in the 200 behind Abraham, Gillon and CMS' Aiyanna Cammeron-Lewis, finishing in 26.15.

Season Impact: The Tigers start the Dual-Meet Season with a 1-2 record.

Oxy had a couple of standout performances in distance events.

Roxanne Valle, a first year from Azusa who was All-SCIAC and All-Region in cross country in the Fall, finished second in the 800m (2:19.55) and the 1500m (4:50.74).

Eva Townsend and Aria Blumm finished 1-2 in the 3000m steeplechase. Townsend won with a time of 12:03.72 and Blumm wasn't far behind her in 12:09.50.

Mel Devoney finished second in the 5k (18:57.90).

Next Meet: The Tigers are back in action on March 11 at the Oxy Distance Carnival. Oxy returns to SCIAC play at Pomona-Pitzer on April 2.
