THOUSAND OAKS — The Occidental College women's volleyball team picked up two more wins at the Cal Lutheran Fornia Invitational on Saturday, making it a perfect 4-0 at the two-day tournament this weekend.

Oxy beat UC Santa Cruz during the afternoon in four sets and then Grinnell in three later in the evening.

The day before, Oxy (7-1) beat Trinity (Tex.) and Hardin-Simmons (Tex.).

The Tigers open SCIAC play against the conference's newest opponent, Chapman, on the road Friday. Chapman made the NCAA Division III playoffs last year as an independent and figures to be a major contender for the SCIAC championship this season.

MATCH 1: Occidental 3, UC Santa Cruz 1

27-29, 25-18, 26-24, 26-24

Logan Boyer-Hayse (Boulder, Colo.) racked up 22 kills and 19 digs in a match that needed extra points in three of the four sets.

A total of just nine points separated the two teams in the entire match.

Madyson Cassidy (Arcadia) led Oxy with 39 digs and Kasey Rose (Los Olivos) was second on the team with 18 kills.

MATCH 2: Occidental 3, Grinnell 0

25-15, 26-24, 25-12

Rose led Oxy with 13 kills, Boyer-Hayse added 10 and the Tigers made quick work of Grinnell.

Freshman setter Sarah Beene (Gilbert, Ariz.) had four kills, seven digs and 13 assists for the Tigers.
