OXY SWEEPS CALTECH FOR FIRST SCIAC WIN

PASADENAJacqueline Surdell (Chicago) had a career high eight kills, Kasey Rose (Los Olivos) led the match with 11 and the Occidental College women's volleyball team made quick work of Caltech on the road in three sets on Saturday, 25-13, 25-5, 25-11.

What was even more impressive than Surdell and Rose's high point totals was their efficiency. Surdell hit .438 and Rose hit .500.

Rose led Oxy (8-2, 1-1 SCIAC) with 10 digs and Sarah Beene (Gilbert, Ariz.) had 20 assists. Aly Fritz (South Pasadena) added six kills.

The Tigers played all 12 suited players.

Oxy has a few days off before beginning a big weekend at Whittier on Friday and then home against Cal Lutheran on Saturday in a rematch of last year' SCIAC championship game.
