LOS ANGLELESLogan Boyer-Hayse (Boulder, Colo.) had a match-high 20 kills, but the Occidental College women's volleyball team had 10 service errors and 26 attacking errors in a 3-1 loss to La Verne on Saturday morning, 25-27, 25-20, 25-23, 25-17.

Boyer-Hayse, a 2011 AVCA First Team All-American, hit .224, had 10 digs to go along with her attacking numbers and the Tigers (10-4, 3-3 SCIAC) were rolling early.

Oxy jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set and held the advantage for almost the entire game before the Leopards (13-2, 6-1 SCIAC) took the lead 25-24. Kasey Rose (Los Olivos) scored a tip shot to tie the set at 25, Jessie Altman (La Jolla) and Stephanie Gann (Tacoma, Wash.) teamed up for a block to put Oxy up one, and Boyer-Hayse put away the game-winning point.

Jacqueline Surdell (Chicago) made two diving digs on two of the last three possessions to put Oxy's attack in a position to win the set.

From there, the Tigers just didn't look sharp. They had a pair of service errors in Game 2 and five in Game 3 to fall behind 2-1. In Game 4, Oxy led 7-5, but four attacking errors and one set error in the next eight possessions put them behind 12-9.

Oxy was within two, 16-14, before the Leopards went on a 9-3 run to close the set and the match led by Catie Logan and Kayla Cribbs, who each had a pair of kills during the stretch.

Randi Taylor-Toomay led the Leopards with 18.

Altman led the match with 43 assists and Oxy libero Madyson Cassidy (Arcadia) led with 30 digs.

Oxy will have to put the loss past them quickly. The Tigers host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Game 2 of their doubleheader at 5 p.m. in Rush Gymnasium.
