LOS ANGELESLogan Boyer-Hayse (Boulder, Colo.) had a match-high 22 kills and 20 digs to lead the Occidental College women's volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the Tigers second game of a SCIAC doubleheader on Saturday.

Oxy (11-4, 4-3 SCIAC) dropped the first set, then won three straight, beating CMS at Rush Gymnasium 21-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-22.

In their first match of the day, the opposite was the case. The Tigers won the first set only to lose Games 2, 3 and 4.

Boyer-Hayse was all over the floor in both contests.

Against CMS, the junior outside hitter had five kills in each of the first three sets, seven more in the fourth and hit .413 on the match. She finished the day with 42 kills and 30 digs.

Against the Athenas (10-5, 3-4 SCIAC), in a pivotal third set, Kasey Rose (Los Olivos) capped an 8-0 Oxy run with three consecutive aces to put Oxy up 16-6. The closest CMS would get after the run was 23-14, but Alyssa Mort (Tucson, Ariz.) had a pair of kills and Boyer-Hayse had another to give Oxy a 2-1 set lead.

In Game 4, with the score tied at 21, Boyer-Hayse scored an ace, CMS had a pair of attacking errors and Mort finished the match with a kill.

Mort had the match's second highest point total with 13 kills.

The Tigers had nine service errors but 10 aces, a big improvement from their first match against ULV when they had four aces to 10 errors.

Oxy setters Jessie Altman (La Jolla) and Sarah Beene (Gilbert, Ariz.) combined for 53 assists with 31 and 22, respectively.

With seven SCIAC matches down, Oxy sits in fourth place, two games back of Cal Lutheran and Chapman.

The Tigers play at Redlands (5-7, 1-5 SCIAC) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
