SAN MARCOS — The Occidental women's volleyball team increased its winning streak to four matches with a 3-0 sweep at Saint Katherine on Tuesday (25-15, 25-22, 25-19).
Sabrina Degnan led the team with 17 kills and Hannah Wagner tallied 10. Allie Sundara had a team-high 22 assists and added five kills and Lara Minassians added 15 assists. Degnan, Sydney Takauye, and Taylor Gorretta all had 13 digs on the day.
Oxy served well with seven aces and had four blocks at the net.
Early on in the first set, the Tigers and Firebirds were in a back and forth set with no team taking a huge lead. After the Firebirds tied the game at seven, the Tigers managed to score the next three points and pulled away. Occidental finished the set on a 9-2 run.
The second set was competitive throughout. No team would have a lead greater than three, but the Tigers would prevail in the end at 25-22.
The final set would feature five ties early on in the set, but the Tigers would never trail, managing to win the third set 25-19.
With the victory the Tigers improve to 7-9, while the Firebirds fall to 11-12.
The Tigers season continues Friday when they travel down to Whittier to take on Whittier College Poets. In their first meet this season the Tigers lost the match 3-1, in what would be a competitive match.
