Oxy Women's Cross Third at SCIAC Multi-Dual

LA MIRADA — First year Fiona Pedrick led the Occidental women's cross country team to a third-place finish at the SCIAC Multi-Dual at La Mirada Park on Saturday.

Pedrick, who's shown flashes of excellence already this season, was Oxy's top finisher and the 13th-best overall, crossing the line in 22 minutes, 55.89 seconds.

Pomona-Pitzer's Maya Weigel won the 6k race at 21:04.84.

The Tigers finished behind winner, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and Pomona-Pitzer.

Oxy was hoping to challenge Pomona-Pitzer for the second spot, but fell too far behind and couldn't make up for the deficit with a strong finish.

Sabrina Thurber was Oxy's second best in 17th (23:20.02), Eva Townsend finished 20th (23:22.57), Aria Blumm was 24th (23:32.36) and Mel Devoney was 28th (24:01.62), rounding out Oxy's five scorers.

"I'm really proud of Fiona and Sabrina," Oxy head coach Rob Bartlett said. "We didn't have a great day as a team, but there were things in the race we can do better next time."

Conference Scoring: The SCIAC Multi Dual Competition accounts for 33 percent of the final standing with the conference championship meet making up the rest.

Next Race: The Tigers are back in action on Oct. 15 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
